Mercedes Benz G63 6×6; Love it, or love it
Here are the numbers for the G63 6×6:
- Displacement of 5.5L, AMG V8-biturbo
- 536 horsepower
- 560nM torque
- 0-60mph in under 6 seconds
Mercedes in-house tuning division, AMG, is known for going over the top; and their most recent project done to the Gelandewagen is something that is sure to ruffle some feathers. If you thought the military bred G-Wagen was crazy enough then you must see their new G63 6×6.
Originally the 6×6 was commissioned by the Australian army and at first sight you might think, “This is absurd!”, but once you take a gander at the specifications and the masterful work Mercedes has done to the body and interior, you might just come to like it. The G63 6×6 stands at a whopping 7.2 ft tall, is 7ft wide and measured at 20ft in length. Weighing in at a staggering 3.75 tons, the 6×6 will set you back well over half of a million dollars. G63 6×6 has, as its name states, six massive 37in wheels creating a six- wheel drive power split of 30/40/30 along the axle. In addition to an upgraded suspension, including front springs borrowed from the armored G class; the 6×6 has 5 locking differentials, which can be set via the dashboard buttons. An overhead control switch, that allows you to switch between fuel tanks while on the move.
In this civilian version of the 6×6 we have the luxury of ventilated, diamond quilted leather seats, a carbon fiber, leather wrapped dashboard and a solid bamboo-lined cargo bay. With all these creature comforts the 6×6 can wade in 1 meter of water, and climb the greatest of angles.
You may ask yourself who would buy this impractical beast? Of course this has virtually no use in society and is not even the slightest bit sensible, but even Mercedes needs to have a sense of humor. You have to admit that all of us have a bit of our childhood deep down inside, and I positively have a retroactive crush on the G63 6×6! With virtually all automakers playing the drab game of efficiency, there always has to be room for a wild card.
